Our founder, Angela, has always had a very active lifestyle, scattered between work, running, cycling, triathlons, hiking, rock-climbing and anything else with an adrenaline rush. Rather suddenly, she discovered food allergies to soy, gluten and eggs that then combined with an existing intolerance to dairy. She had trouble finding things to eat when on the go, especially when in areas without a health food store. Yet, even at health food stores, most of the bars were packed with soy or some kind of gluten. This caused blood sugar crashes to happen all too frequently. Being a self-professed foodie, she set out to make her own snack, just for convenience sake. She liked it, and kept making batches for herself at her house. She started testing it out during hikes and rock-climbing and cycling and found it a perfect way to balance her blood sugar. Soon her friends tried it and liked it...then friends of friends tried it and liked it. By that point, Angela couldn’t keep up, and decided that if enough people liked this snack, why not make it available to those suffering from the same lack of a tasty allergy-free snack? BAREbrittle was born...
